The Port of Naples

The port of Naples is the most important maritime hub in Campania and one of the most important in the Mediterranean. Every year millions of travelers embark for Ischia, Procida, Capri and Sorrento, without forgetting the connections with the major islands (Sicily and Sardinia) and the constantly increasing cruise traffic.

During the winter months, daily connections with the island of Ischia are just over 30, but their number increases during the tourist season (from Easter to October). The same goes for Procida and Capri: during the winter months there are about 20 daily trips, only to increase progressively as the high season approaches. The number of trips to Sorrento is lower because the town is also easily accessible by land by car, scooter, bus and with the Circumvesuviana metropolitan service.

Ferries and hydrofoils leave from the port of Naples

The ferries leave from the Calata Porta di Massa pier and take from 70 to 90 minutes to reach the island of Ischia*; 6
0 minutes to reach Procida; from 50 to 80 minutes to reach Capri**

*The possible intermediate stop in Procida has an impact on the ferry travel times to the island of Ischia.
**The time taken by ferry to Capri affects the type of ship.

The hydrofoils depart from the Molo Beverello pier and take from 60 to 90 minutes to reach the island of Ischia ***; 40 minutes to reach Procida; 45 to 50 minutes to reach Capri; 40 to 45 minutes to reach Sorrento.

***The possible intermediate stop in Ischia Porto has a consequence on the journey times by hydrofoil to Forio.

Hydrofoils with Ventotene, Ponza and the Aeolian Islands are guaranteed only during the summer months with departure from Naples Mergellina. For the Aeolian Islands it takes from 4 to 5 hours; for the Pontine from 2 to 3 hours.

What to see near the port of Naples

Near the port of Naples there's a lot to see: Stazione Marittima; Male Angevin; Umberto I Gallery; San Carlo Theater; Piazza del Plebiscito; Royal Palace; Underground Naples; via Chiaia; via dei Mille; via Toledo et cetera. In short, an incredible number of attractions (those listed are only a small part) and many shops shops to browse a bit.

Special mention for food: street food, pizza, pasta, meat, fish, in Naples everything you eat is delicious and you almost always spend little. Certainly less than in Rome, Florence, Venice and other Italian cities of art. The pastry and coffee are also of high quality.

All this variety just a few minutes from the port of Naples. If the time available is a little more, you should visit Spaccanapoli, the heart of the historic city center. Alternatively, if it's a beautiful day, strolling along the Caracciolo promenade is also a highly recommended experience.
