The Port of Naples

The port of Naples is the most important maritime hub in Campania and one of the most important in the Mediterranean. Every year, millions of travelers embark for IschiaProcidaCapri and Sorrento, without forgetting the connections with the major islands (Sicily and Sardinia) and the constantly increasing numbers of cruise traffic.

During the winter months the daily connections to the island of Ischia are just over 30, but their number increases significantly during the tourist season (from Easter to October). Similar speech for Procida and Capri: during the winter months there are about 20 daily trips, except to increase gradually with the approach of the high season. The number of trips to Sorrento, on the other hand, is less, but only because the location is easily reachable also by land by car, scooter, bus and with the Circumvesuviana metropolitan service. Ferries and hydrofoils leave from the port of NaplesThe ferries sail from the dock Calata Porta di Massa and it takes 70 to 90 minutes to reach the island of Ischia * ; 60 minutes to reach Procida; 50 to 80 minutes to reach Capri **.

* The possible intermediate stop in Procida has an impact on the ferry travel times to the island of Ischia.
** The time taken by ferry to Capri affects the type of ship.

The hydrofoils , however, depart from the dock of Beverello and employ from 60 to 90 minutes to reach the island of Ischia *** ; 40 minutes to reach Procida; 45 to 50 minutes to reach Capri; 40 to 45 minutes to reach Sorrento.

*** On the journey times by hydrofoil to Forio the possible intermediate stop in Ischia Porto has an impact.

Hydrofoils with Ventotene, Ponza and the Aeolian Islands are insured only during the summer months with departure from Naples Mergellina . For the Aeolian Islands it takes from 4 to 5 hours; for the Pontine from 2 to 3 hours.

What to see near the port of Naples

Near the port of Naples there is a lot to see: Maritime StationAngevin maleGalleria Umberto ISan Carlo TheaterPiazza del PlebiscitoRoyal PalaceUnderground Naplesvia Chiaiavia dei Millevia Toledo et cetera.

In short, an incredible number of attractions (those listed are only a small part) and many shops to go shopping or just browse around a bit.

Special mention for food : whether it's street food, of the inevitable pizza, or of first and second courses in Naples, you eat very well and you almost always spend little. Certainly less than in Rome, Florence, Venice and other Italian cities of art. Even the pastry shop has no fear, not to mention coffee, a real daily ritual which is impossible to avoid.

All this variety just a few minutes from the port of Naples. An opportunity not to be missed if you have some time available before embarking for the chosen destination or returning home. And if the time available is a bit more, it is worth going to Spaccanapoli, the heart of the historic city center. Alternatively, if it is a beautiful day, walking on the Caracciolo promenade is also a highly recommended experience.
