Prohibition of landing in Salina (Aeolian Islands) with motor vehicle (decree 2023)

From mid-June to mid-September there is a ban on the influx of vehicles on the island of Salina (Aeolian archipelago).

Limitation of the influx of motor vehicles on the island of Salina

From 15 June 2023 to 15 September 2023, the influx and circulation, on the island of Salina, of motor vehicles belonging to people who are not part of the permanent resident population in the Municipalities of Leni, Malfa and Santa Marina Salina, as well as of buses belonging to companies that do not have their registered and administrative headquarters on the island itself.

Exemptions

The following vehicles are excluded from the ban:
a) motor vehicles, mopeds and motorcycles belonging to owners of properties located in the territories of the three municipalities of the island of Salina, which, although not resident, are registered in the respective municipal waste registers (registration attested with relative tax collection or certification issued by one of the municipalities of the island), limited to a single vehicle per family unit;
b) vehicles whose owners can demonstrate that they spend at least seven days on the island of Salina, in a hotel, non-hotel or private home;
c) vehicles with foreign license plates;
d) vehicles used for the transport of goods, gas, fuel and waste transport;
e) vehicles carrying people with disabilities, as long as they have the appropriate mark provided for by art. 381 of the decree of the President of the Republic 16 December 1992, n. 495, and subsequent amendments and additions, issued by a competent Italian or foreign authority;
f) ambulances, hearses, police and fire service vehicles;
g) vehicles for television, cinema or transporting artists and equipment for musical and cultural events, conferences, exhibitions and shows, subject to authorization issued by the municipalities concerned.


Authorizations

The Municipalities of Leni, Malfa and Santa Marina Salina are granted the right, in the event of a clear and real need and urgency, to grant further exceptions to the ban on landing on the island.


Implementation and supervision

The prohibitions and exceptions referred to in this decree are subject to compliance with any restrictive regimes for the movement of individuals arranged at national and regional level as a result of the epidemiological situation from COVID-19.

The prefect of Messina is in charge of the execution and systematic surveillance of compliance with the prohibitions established with this decree, for the entire period considered, with particular reference to the evolution of the prohibitions on the movement of individuals arranged at national and regional level as a result of epidemiological situation from COVID-19.
