Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori

Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori is the shipping company that manages ferry connections between Sicily and its archipelagos, operating mainly through the historic Siremar brand for the integrated transport of passengers, vehicles, and cargo. The fleet ensures territorial continuity by regularly connecting the ports of Milazzo, Trapani, Palermo, and Porto Empedocle with the Aeolian, Aegadian, and Pelagie islands, Ustica, and Pantelleria.

Fleet Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori

The Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori fleet (which operates largely under the Siremar brand ferries) consists of approximately 15 units structured to ensure the combined transport of passengers, cars, and heavy cargo to the Sicilian archipelagos. The main vessels:

  • Nerea: A modern, eco-friendly hybrid dual-fuel ship (also powered by LNG), specifically designed with optimized features for mooring and sailing in the ports of the minor islands.
  • Laurana: A historic, large-sized unit used on long-haul routes.
  • Sansovino: A passenger and vehicle ferry equipped with high cargo capacity, mainly used for the southern routes towards the Pelagie islands (Lampedusa and Linosa).
  • Paolo Veronese: A traditional ferry unit used to ensure territorial continuity and the supply of essential goods to the islands.
  • Antonello da Messina and Pietro Mondello: Ships used on medium-range connections such as Palermo - Ustica or Milazzo - Aeolian Islands.
  • Isola di Vulcano: A new-generation fast ferry that combines the capacity to board vehicles with a higher cruising speed compared to traditional ferries

Children

Under 4 years old: travel for free without the right to an individual seat. From 4 to 12 years old: entitled to a 50% discount on the base ticket fare. From 12 years old and up: pay the full fare scheduled for adults.

Animals on board

On Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori ferries (Siremar lines), pets are allowed on board, provided they have a regular dedicated travel ticket and the company's health and hygiene regulations are respected.

  • Dogs: Must be kept on a leash and muzzled for the entire duration of the crossing. Medium-to-large sized dogs are subject to boarding approval by the company.
  • Cats and small animals: Must travel inside suitable carriers, cages, or baskets owned by the passenger.
  • Access areas: Pets must remain exclusively in the designated outdoor areas or in the ship's kennels (if the vessel is equipped with them). It is strictly forbidden to bring them into common lounges, social areas, and standard cabins, unless the specific pet cabin service is active.

Luggage

Adult Passengers: Entitled to the free transport of 20 kg gross of hand luggage.

Children under 12: For minors paying half fare, the free baggage allowance is reduced to 10 kg gross.

Commercial Travelers: Commercial samples are allowed as luggage up to a maximum limit of 20 kg.

Bicycles

Bicycles are not included in the hand luggage allowance; they must have their own dedicated ticket. Transport requires the payment of a specific reduced fare for unmotorized two-wheeled vehicles, which varies based on the route (archipelago) and seasonality (low or high season). The boarding, positioning, and disembarking of the bicycle must be carried out directly by the owner. Once on board, the passenger must lead the vehicle to the garage area indicated by the staff and secure it to the ship's designated racks or fastening structures.

WiFi on board

On the new-generation ships of the fleet, the Free Wi-Fi service is active and available free of charge for passengers in all indoor common areas

Bar services and catering on board

Bars are present on all traditional passenger ferries in the fleet. They offer coffee, breakfast options, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, packaged snacks, sandwiches, and baked goods

Cancellation policy

In the event of cancellation by the passenger, the refund of the ticket price (excluding booking fees, which are never refundable) is subject to progressive percentage penalties calculated based on how long before departure the request is submitted. For connections with the minor islands, cancellations made close to departure or failure to board (no-show) result in the total loss of the amount (100% penalty). Once the trip is canceled within the deadlines, the right to physically collect the refund strictly expires within 6 months from the original departure date indicated on the ticket. You can request a direct cancellation through the dedicated form by entering the booking code (PNR). Note: If purchased through physical agencies or aggregator websites, the refund process must be managed and issued exclusively by the agency itself.

  • 10% Penalty: Applied for cancellations made up to 24 hours before departure.
  • 25% Penalty: Applied for cancellations made within the 24 hours prior and up to 30 minutes before departure.
  • 100% Penalty (No Refund): If the cancellation is communicated less than 30 minutes before departure or in case of a no-show.
