The ferries that sail to Sardinia on the Genoa Olbia line

In late spring, summer and early autumn you can reach the important Sardinian port of Olbia starting from Genoa (Liguria), obviously also being able to navigate the reverse route.

The ferries that ply the Genoa – Olbia route and vice versa connect Sardinia to the port located in the northernmost part of the Ligurian Sea, operating exclusively in the medium-high season and high season and belong to the fleets of two shipping companies (Moby and GNV).

The Sardinian coastal city of Olbia overlooks the gulf of the same name, in the north-east of the island, in the province of Sassari, and its port is a fundamental connection point with the Italian peninsula.

The company with the Looney Tunes characters, or lately with the characteristic (and historic) Blue Whale, on liveries sails both during the day, with a journey of ten hours, and at night, with a journey of twelve hours and thirty minutes; the trips are generally multi-day, except in the autumn period of the mid-season, when they are not carried out on some days of the week.

The time interval in which Grandi Navi Veloci completes the line is more or less the same, even if it stops operating a few weeks earlier, and the duration of the journeys, carried out almost exclusively at night, varies between eleven hours and thirty minutes and twelve hours and forty-five minutes.

The following paragraphs provide details on the rides in question; to have timely and always updated information relating to the specific dates of your trip, you can click on the previous link relating to the route: you will in fact be redirected to a page with the times and prices for a particular date and the possibility of booking. If you are interested in the Olbia – Genoa route, there is also a page dedicated to the return route. In any case, by selecting the “Roundtrip” option in the appropriate form you can consult all the information necessary for your trip at the same time.

Moby ferries on the Genoa – Olbia line

The ferries of the Moby shipping company that operate on the Genoa – Olbia line usually do so from the beginning of May to the end of October with a multi-day frequency (two outward journeys and two return journeys, in both cases mostly at night) except in October , when on some days of the week the trips are not carried out.

In the very high season, some trips are also made during the day, departing in the morning rather than in the evening. The duration of the journey varies between ten hours and eleven and a half hours.

The carriers used are Cruise Ferry or Fast Cruise Ferry (Tirrenia Bithia, Moby Aky, Drea, Otta or Wonder), on which reclining seats and double or quadruple cabins, internal or external, are available, as well as services such as bar, restaurant, play area, on-board shop, Wi-Fi, totem for charging smartphones and tablets.

GNV ferries on the Genoa – Olbia line

The ferries of the Grandi Navi Veloci shipping company that sail on the Genoa – Olbia line generally operate from the beginning of May to the beginning of October, at night in almost all cases, and with different departure times. The frequency is daily except in May and October, when the ride is carried out every other day.

In the very high season some rides are carried out during the day, with departures in the morning instead of, as usual, in the late afternoon, evening or late evening. The duration of the crossing varies between eleven hours and thirty minutes and twelve hours and forty-five minutes on the outward journey, between eleven hours and thirty minutes and twelve hours and thirty minutes on the return journey.

The return route (Olbia – Genoa) starts about ten days after the seasonal debut on the outward journey, i.e. after the first half of May.

The ferries that operate the line are the Rhapsody and the GNV Vessel 1, with a rotation system that sees them alternate with the Excellent and the Excelsior; these carriers have accommodations such as seats and double or quadruple cabins, with or without portholes, and services such as a bar, restaurant, on-board shop, games room, children’s room and Wi-Fi.
