Reaching Corsica from Italy in autumn winter

In low season to arrive by sea in Corsica from Italy you must dock in Bastia from Livorno or first disembark in Sardinia, where you can then take another ferry to Bonifacio.

How to get to Corsica

There are two options related to the means of transport with which you can reach Corsica from Italy: the ferry or the plane. Considering that there are not many direct flights on the route, that the costs of aircraft are not always low, especially if you need to carry at least 10 kilograms of baggage, and that the crossing with the ship has its charm, the advice is to go to Corsica by sea.

In medium and high season the ferries reach the French island, precisely the port of Bastia, through many direct departures from the Italian peninsula, while in low season you can travel on the Livorno – Bastia route with Corsica Ferries – Sardinia Ferries or you must make a stopover in Sardinia and change carrier. In order to reach the territory by ferry in autumn winter it is necessary to dock in Bastia from Livorno or to make an intermediate stop with the relative transfer: it is necessary to go, after being disembarked in one of the ports of Sardinia, to another Sardinian port, generally that of Santa Teresa Gallura, and take another ship with direction Bonifacio (Corsica). Ferry connections Sardinia – Corsica autumn winter 2022 2025

For the three-year period from 2022 to 2025 the shipping company Moby connect, at least from November to March, Sardinia and Corsica. Every year, through the Department of Transport of the Sardinia Region, is published a notice for the “Expression of interest and request of authorization to the exercise of the service of marine connection of persons and goods in territorial continuity and with horizontal public service obligations on the line Santa Teresa di Gallura – Bonifacio“. To October 2022 the contract of public service of marine connection is adjudicated to the company founded by Achille Onorato for the transport of people, vehicles and goods in territorial continuity through the Strait of Bonifacio in the period from 1 November to 31 March.

The new contract includes four pairs of rides per day, one more than the three races of the previous one, and it has a duration of 15 months, 5 months (November to March) for each of the three years of commitment (from 2022 to 2025). The Region may exercise the option for a further three years. For the period from 1 April to 31 October 2023, however, for the Santa Teresa – Bonifacio line, another regional warning is banned.

The operating carrier on the route, which requires a journey time of 50 minutes, is the Moby Giraglia, equipped with stabilizers that make navigation comfortable even in poor weather conditions. You can freely settle in the lounge chairs and enjoy the on-board services, including air conditioning, coffee bar, video game area, shop, solarium, Wi-Fi and totem to recharge the phone battery.

The check-in procedure is carried out in front of the access ramps of the ship. You must be at the boarding at least half an hour before departure if you are traveling without a vehicle or within an hour and a half from departure if you are traveling with a vehicle in tow.


Ferries to Bonifacio November December 2022

The Sardinian Transport Department announces the temporary transfer from day 1 November 2022 to 15 December 2022 of the service of marine connection for Bonifacio from the port of Saint Teresa Gallura to the port of Palau due to intense activities of defense of the harbour basin of Saint Teresa Gallura. The service will take place daily at the following times:

  • Departure from Palau at 7:00 with arrival in Bonifacio at 8:30; departure from Bonifacio at 12:25 with arrival in Palau at 13:55.
  • Departure from Palau at 16:10 with arrival in Bonifacio at 17:40; departure from Bonifacio at 19:00 with arrival in Palau at 20:30.

The journey time is 90 minutes.
