What to see near the port of Gorgona

After obtaining the authorization of the Penitentiary Administration and having reached the island, you can start the excursion that will lead you to the discovery of Gorgona. Along the way (about 7 kilometers) you can admire the characteristic cluster of houses overlooking the marina, the church of San Gorgonio and the Torre Nuova , built by the Medici. Also in the port area is Villa Margherita: built on Roman ruins, the structure is the seat of the penitentiary.

Moving inland, you can then admire the Torre Vecchia (also called Rocca Vecchia ), a fortification built by the Pisans. The itinerary (to be tackled properly dressed and with appropriate shoes) also includes a stop at the panoramic terrace of the Belvedere, at Punta Paratella (from which it is possible to see Cala Maestra ) and at the small historic cemetery of Gorgona.
