Traditional Cagliari Christmas markets
Once again this year Cagliari opens the traditional wooden houses in the center that characterize the Christmas markets: from 1 December 2022 to 7 January 2023 in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and in Piazza Yenne, more than forty stands display handicraft products, gift, sweets, liqueurs, as well as bread, pasta, chocolate, cured meats and cheeses, oils, beers and sparkling wines. Tastings, music and shows are scheduled, as well as many events with an eye to children.
The billboard kicks off on December 1st with the parade with Santa Claus, the elves and the mascots and lots of entertainment in the streets of the center (Christmas on the Road), which is also repeated on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception and on days 17 and 22, between snow cannons and giant nutcracker soldiers; on December 4th the event is scheduled with the performance of Santa Claus in the Break Dance version, which is repeated on the 18th, and that of the Dorgali choir. A jugglers and entertainers show is scheduled for 10 December; on the 15th and 21st there is a musical performance with a choir. On the 16th an event aimed at the little ones takes place: the Disney parade.
New Year 2023
The New Year’s Eve in Cagliari 2023 is a candidate among the most attractive events in the square in Italy to celebrate New Year’s Eve, thanks to a great concert starring the singer-songwriter and rapper Blanco and which takes place in the historic centre, in front of the Town Hall, at the crossroads between via Roma and largo Carlo Felice.
Getting to Cagliari by ferry
Tickets for flights to Cagliari are increasingly expensive and unobtainable: especially during the Christmas period, it is advisable to arrive in Cagliari by ferry; after all, there is no shortage of solutions and, if necessary, even the car can be embarked. The Civitavecchia – Cagliari route is carried out three times a week with departures in the evening and completed in 13 hours or 15 hours for those routes with a stopover in Arbatax. Also for the Naples – Cagliari ferries departures are three times a week, with a journey time, which starts in the evening, of 10 hours. On the Palermo – Cagliari route, which leaves once a week in the morning, the crossing takes 12 hours. For boarding, the fast check-in service is active: with the ticket purchased online, you can go directly alongside without first having to check in at the port ticket office. Other Christmas 2022 events in Cagliari
For the 40th edition of the Christmas Fair, many events are planned, including food and wine stands and artistic crafts, the Santa Claus Village and the Lunapark. You can find the typical excellences of Sardinia and an area dedicated to regional craft beers. Access to the exhibition center is possible from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 December 2022, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 and Thursday 22 and Friday 23, with entrance from Viale Diaz.
From 8 to 11 and from 14 to 18 December the medieval fortress of San Michele becomes the Castle of Santa Claus, which also houses the elves and Mother Christmas. Children can watch shows, listen to stories, eat something, write a letter and visit the toy factory.
Thursday 8 December at 20:00 at the CineTeatro Arena Santa Eulalia “Eulab” there is the narrated concert show “Five voices, a Christmas Carol”, based on the novel “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.
The Wonderland amusement park at the “I Fenicotteri” shopping center is open until 6 January 2023: in addition to attractions for adults and children, there is an ice skating rink, street food, live shows and DJ sets.
Starting from 3 December, the Civic School of Music offers three events for adults and children. You can have fun together with the puppets of the Tages Theater, the guitar duo composed by the young Raffaele Putzolu and Victor Valisena, and the pre-Christmas concert by Maestro Luigi Attademo. The events will take place both in the headquarters of the School in Via Venezia and in Palazzo Siotto.
The ninth edition of the “Across Asia Film Festival” is scheduled from 7 to 11 December, with preview screenings of more than twenty films, which can be watched for free at the Cinema Notorius.
From 15 to 18 December there is the Creative Corner Market Christmas Edition in the Lazzaretto (multipurpose art and culture center, where you can look at and buy works by stylists, artisans and illustrators, to make an original gift).
In Palazzo Doglio, the Art Nouveau building that was once the seat of the Prefecture, there is now a luxurious hotel whose central square with fountain overlooks restaurants and shops, where several Christmas appointments are scheduled, by reservation. December 4th is the turn of the workshops, one for adults and another for the little ones, with the “flower bar” dedicated to garlands and the calligraphy lab. On the day of the Immaculate Conception, the big tree lights up and the children can meet Santa Claus. Sunday, December 11 is Children’s Christmas, with a Disney mascot parade, group games, music and more. On Friday 16 December there is Christmas Gospel music with Junior Robinson and the Black Soul Gospel Choir at the Doglio Theater, adjacent to the Palazzo. Sunday 18th entertainment, street food and live music with “Christmas Ugly Sweater Party in Corte“.
As part of the Lei Festival, the review that promotes reading, there are various meetings and conferences. From 9 December at the Metropolitan Library System of Cagliari it is possible to visit a bibliographic exhibition that has adventure as its theme; among the monographs there are also the books presented during the Festival. Sunday 11 December adults can participate in the Doglio Theater in the reading and philosophy workshop entitled “The adventure of living”.
A rich program was organized in the Municipality of Pirri, with workshops, meetings and concerts. Among the many events there is the Christmas concert of the Immaculate Conception at Casa Saddi organized by the local music school; in the same location on 17 and 18 December there are workshops and the Christmas market and on 20 December a theatrical show; in the park of the former Glassware on December 22nd there is the Santa Claus Village and on January 6th there is, to cheer up the end of the holidays, the Epiphany Festival.
