What to see near the port of Trieste

Trieste is a city that can be easily explored on foot. The main places of interest, in fact, are quite close to each other. One of the first things you will see once you arrive in the city is Piazza Unità d'Italia , one of the symbolic places of the Julian capital. The main city and regional institutions overlook the square: Palazzo del Municipio, Palazzo della Prefettura and Palazzo del Lloyd Triestino, seat of the regional council of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

A short distance away you will find the Molo Audace and the so-called Grand Canal of Trieste, located halfway between the Stazione Marittima and the Stazione di Trieste Centrale. Still in the port area, the Trieste Lantern and theVictory LighthouseIn the Borgo Teresiano (overlooking the port) you can also admire, in all their grandeur, the post office and the courthouse.

Another good living room in the city is undoubtedly Piazza della Borsa, near which you will find the Roman Theater, built during the reign of the Emperor Trajan. Going up the hill of San Giusto, you can admire the homonymous cathedral (dedicated to the patron saint of the city) and the Castle, at the foot of which is the park of Remembrance, one of the green lungs of Trieste. Other notable places of worship are the Serbian Orthodox Temple of the Holy Trinity and of San Spiridione and the Synagogue.

Also worthy of mention are the "Giuseppe Verdi" opera house, the "Giuseppe Tartini" Conservatory, the marine aquarium and the historic Caffè San Marco in via Battisti, which has always been a meeting place for intellectuals. Although both are far from the port, it is not possible to leave Trieste without visiting the suggestive Miramare Castle and the Risiera di San Sabba museum, the only example of a Nazi concentration camp in Italy.
