Limitation of the influx of motor vehicles on the islands of Giglio and Giannutri
From 5 August 2023 to 25 August 2023, on the Giglio Island the influx and circulation of vehicles belonging to people who are not permanently resident on the island itself is prohibited, including, in the prohibition, the vehicles of people living or domiciled in the Municipality of Isola del Giglio.
From 1 April 2023 to 1 November 2023 the influx and circulation on the island of Giannutri of vehicles belonging to people not permanently residing on the island itself is prohibited, including, in the prohibition, the vehicles of people residing or domiciled in the Municipality of Isola del Giglio – fraction of Isola di Giannutri.
Exemptions
For the island of Giglio, the following vehicles are excluded from the ban:
- vehicles whose non-resident owners will spend at least five days on the island and caravans and motorhomes whose owners will spend at least four days with their vehicle in the only existing campsite on the island. During the period of validity of the prohibitions, the owners must show, upon landing on the island and at the request of the control bodies, a self-certification, to be kept inside the vehicle for the entire period of stay, in which the vehicle data (license plate and holder), the declarant’s data (personal data, address and tax code) and the data of the accommodation provider (business name, location and period of stay), as well as the dates of arrival and departure;
- vehicles with foreign license plates;
- vehicles for transporting goods, provided they do not conflict with the traffic restrictions in force on the roads of the island of Giglio;
- ambulances, hearses, police and fire service vehicles;
- vehicles serving people with disabilities, as long as they have the appropriate mark provided for by art. 381 of the decree of the President of the Republic 16 December 1992, n. 495, and subsequent amendments and additions, issued by a competent Italian or foreign authority.
For the island of Giannutri, the following vehicles are excluded from the ban:
- ambulances, hearses, police and fire service vehicles;
- vehicles serving people with disabilities, as long as they have the appropriate mark provided for by art. 381 of the decree of the President of the Republic 16 December 1992, n. 495, and subsequent amendments and additions, issued by a competent Italian or foreign authority;
- vehicles used for the recovery of R.S.U., and for the transport of materials classified as special waste;
- vehicles used for water supply, maintenance of the aqueduct, sewerage and electricity networks, the transport of diesel to power plants, as well as commercial vehicles, limited to one working day.
Authorizations
The Municipality of Island of Giglio is granted the right, in case of verified and real necessity and urgency, to grant further authorizations in derogation from the landing ban.
Sanctions
Anyone who violates the prohibitions referred to in this decree is punished with the administrative sanction of the payment of a sum from € 430 to € 1,731 as provided for in paragraph 2 of art. 8, of the legislative decree 30 April 1992, n. 285, with the updates referred to in the decree of the Minister of Justice dated 31 December 2020.
Implementation and supervision
The prefect of Grosseto is responsible for the execution and for the systematic and assiduous supervision of compliance with the prohibitions established with this decree, for the entire period in question.
