All ferries on Civitavecchia Olbia round trip

This is one of the most popular routes to reach Sardinia by sea, also because it is the shortest. But let's see all the details on rides.

Which ships leave from Civitavecchia to Olbia and vice versa

The ferries that operate on the Civitavecchia (Lazio) – Olbia (Sardinia) route for both the outward and return journeys (this is the shortest trajectory that connects the Italian mainland to the island by sea), are part of four different shipping companies.

Tirrenia uses Bithia and Nuraghes carriers on this route. Managed by this Vincenzo Onorato company, the Moby Tommy (Onorato Armatori Group) also operates on the route. Grimaldi Lines, on the other hand, covers the trajectory from June to September with the Cruise Bonaria. GNV runs this line, exclusively from June to September, with the Tenacia naval unit.

The Bithia in the port of Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia is a town in the metropolitan city of Roma Capitale overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast of Lazio. The port, for the number of passengers per year, is the second in Europe, and it represents an obligatory stopover for those who must reach (or depart from) Rome by sea.

The Moby Tommy in the port of Olbia

Olbia is located in the province of Sassari and it is the closest point of Sardinia to the Italian peninsula. The gulf of the same name overlooks the north-eastern Sardinian side. The Isola Bianca port is the first in Italy for passenger traffic on medium and long distance routes.

Prices may vary based on various factors, such as the period, availability and the fact that you travel by deck, seat, cabin, with or without a vehicle or pets.

With Tirrenia and Moby, the duration of navigation on the Civitavecchia – Olbia route, which is traveled every day all year round, is five hours and thirty minutes or six hours with day trips, and seven or eight hours at night. Passengers without a vehicle are required to show up for boarding within thirty minutes of departure time; by vehicle, you must show up for check-in at least ninety minutes before departure. The documents required for acceptance are the paper or digital ticket and the valid identity document (identity card, passport) for each passenger, including minors.

With Grimaldi Lines the services of the Civitavecchia-Olbia line, with departure in the evening, are active daily from June to the end of September, and take seven hours and thirty minutes to reach their destination. It is mandatory to show up alongside at least ninety minutes before departure, whether you are traveling with or without a vehicle. Also in this case, this is a fast check-in procedure, because it allows ticket holders to go directly to the boarding area for check-in, with a digital ticket on their smartphone or printed, if purchased online, or paper if purchased at the ticket office. The identity documents of each passenger are also required, including minors.

With GNV the travel time on the Civitavecchia-Olbia route, operational from June to the end of September, is six hours and forty-five minutes. For check-in you must go to the ticket office, or to the access gate to the port area if you have a vehicle, and present printed tickets and valid identity documents of each passenger, even if under age, in order to collect your boarding passes. It will therefore be necessary to show identity documents and boarding cards to those in charge of security checks on the ship’s access ramp. To check in, you must show up one hour before the scheduled departure time if you are traveling as a pedestrian, while, for those traveling by vehicle, the advance on departure must be at least two hours. The maritime terminal and the Civitavecchia ticket office address is that of Varco Vespucci.
